Military Credit

Students with current or prior military service may be able to receive college credit for their military coursework or occupational training by submitting an official Joint Services Transcript (JST).

The JST has replaced the Coast Guard Institute Transcript, the Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcript System (AARTS), and the Sailor/Marine American Council on Education Registry Transcript (SMART). The JST is academically recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE) in serving to validate a service member‘s military experience and training.

JSTs can be ordered at https://jst.doded.mil/

The JST system is designed to send official transcripts electronically to CSU. CSU will evaluate JSTs exclusively for students who have been formally accepted and have had all transfer credit reviewed and awarded.

Once these conditions have been met, students will be able to submit the “JST Credit Evaluation Agreement Form.” This form can be found in “MyCSU” under the “forms” tab.

Once submitted, the form will be sent to the Registrar’s Office for review. Evaluations may require up to two weeks.

Please note that in compliance with policy, at least 25 percent of the credit hours required for an undergraduate degree must be earned through instruction offered by CSU. This minimum cannot include transfer coursework or credit received through prior learning, such as JST credit. Credit attained through Joint Services Transcripts may be used to satisfy degree requirements but may not exceed 50% of the required hours in any degree program.
