Classes Meeting One Time Per Week
Classes that meet only once a week must follow the standard graduate class meeting schedule (6:00-8:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday). Once a week classes will follow the same final exam schedule as regular classes. A department must offer at least one class at 6 p.m. each day of the week in order to be allowed to schedule more than two classes at the same one-day-a week period.
Graduate Scheduling
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 3 and 4 credit hours
Graduate courses meeting in the evenings may start at any time on or after 4:30 pm. All classes must meet in accordance with SACS guidelines. (SACS requires that 3 credit-hour classes meet 150 minutes per week and 4 credit-hour classes meet 200 minutes per week. Class time must be increased if you plan on including a break during the meeting time).
Example of 3 credit hour class: 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm; 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm; 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm (without a break; if faculty intend to have a break, it must be added to the 150 minute requirement)
Example of 4 credit hour class: 4:30 pm – 7:50 pm; 5:30 pm – 8:50 pm; 6:30 pm – 9:50 pm (without a break; if faculty intend to have a break, it must be added to the 200 minute requirement)
Saturday classes optional and are at the discretion of the departments.
Short-Term/Half-Term Classes
Half-term classes meet for a standard of approximately 2250 minutes, based on a 3-credit-hour course, with a final examination scheduled separately. Half-term 3-credit-hour courses that meet twice a week meet for 14 meetings (13 meetings for 162 minutes each meeting and a 150-minute final exam during the 14th meeting). Part-of-term classes should be scheduled so that every first half-of-term class has a companion second term class that utilizes the same meeting pattern and location. Please contact the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President for times.
