About the Program
Everything has a history and that history deals with real people and events. Latin American, African American, Native American, Medieval, Military and International, Islamic, and United States history can be explored at Columbus State University’s RiverPark campus in uptown Columbus, Georgia.
A Bachelor of Arts degree in history is creative to the core. History is constantly engaging society by asking questions, critiquing itself, and evolving through contemporary debate. Courses in Urban Geography, Cultural Geography, and Geographic Information Systems will enhance your research abilities while exploring creativity, persuasion, and collaboration.
Professors will work closely to prepare you for the experience of presenting research at conferences including the annual meeting of the Southeastern Division of the Association of American Geographers (SEDAAG). The national history honor society, Phi Alpha Theta, hosts conferences for undergraduate and graduate students at both the state and national levels. Another unique opportunity is The Dr. Gregory P. Domin Graduate Conference takes place each Fall semester at Columbus State. You can take advantage of the funding opportunities that CSU provides via Student Research and Creative Endeavor grants.
With organized trips to local and regional historical sites and numerous internship opportunities, you’ll develop real-world knowledge acquire the hands-on experience needed to prepare you for the future.

Research & Analysis Track
WHistory students understand the complexity of the human experience. They are exposed to its diversity as they learn about peoples and societies around the world, and as they think about how these changed over time. They see how various individuals and groups interacted in different settings, and reflect on the reasons why people acted the way they did, and on the consequences of their choices. They respect these differences, while working to understand their origin and evolution.

Secondary Education Track
The B.A. program in History and Secondary Education at Columbus State University provides basic and advanced content and pedagogical studies that develop expertise in the teaching of diverse secondary social studies students. Students explore important historical themes and concepts, analyze and model effective instructional strategies, and practice the skills they learn in a variety of secondary school settings.
