Biography

Debbie Anderson has over 30 years of professional performance experience including opera, oratorio, and musical theatre. Before moving to Columbus, she lived in Wisconsin where she served as vocal specialist and soloist with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Chorus and was the soprano soloist for their Arts in Community Education program. After winning the Best Young Artist’s Award at the Wisconsin District Metropolitan Opera Auditions, Debbie went on to perform such varied operatic roles as Blanche in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites and Mable in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance.

Columbus has been Debbie’s home for the last 20 years. She has been a regular performer at the historic Springer Opera House. Her favorite roles include Mother in Ragtime, Anna in The King and I, and Miss Mona in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Since 2015, she has served as the full-time musical director for the Springer where she assists in casting, prepares the ensembles, coaches the principals, and facilitates orchestra preparation. She is a founding member of the professional vocal ensemble, Cantus Columbus, and is the regular cantor/soloist at St Thomas Episcopal Church and Temple Israel.

Debbie has been part-time faculty at the Schwob School of music since 2018. Helping young singers find their true voice brings her great joy. It is a pleasure to be a part of the faculty of this exceptional program.
