Bachelors in Secondary Education

About the Program

Students holding up their hands with writing that spells out Create You

Create your future as a high school educator. When you pursue certification in secondary education through the subject area you plan to teach, you'll learn inside and outside the classroom. Our creative curriculum emphasizes teaching theory, research, and methodology. Pre-service teachers enrich their education through internships that reflect the social, ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of today's students and their families.

Columbus State's partnership with Muscogee County School District offers a unique employment advantage: All graduates who meet the necessary examination and licensure requirements will be guaranteed a teaching contract with the district.

Educator Preparation at CSU is approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (now Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation).

Career Opportunities

Columbus State’s secondary education degrees lead to initial Georgia certification. It qualifies graduates to teach in grades 9-12.

Career Outlook

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for high school teachers is projected to grow by 4% from 2018-2028. The median annual salary for elementary school teachers was more than $60,000 in 2018.
