Columbus State University

Joshua E. Lane, MD, MBA '10

Learning and creativity never end

Demonstrating learning never ends, Columbus-area dermatologist Dr. Joshua Lane already had a medical degree on his wall when he enrolled in Columbus State University's Master of Business Administration program in 2008. Today, the 2010 grad views his CSU academic experience as an investment in himself and his medical practice.

"My time at CSU helped me develop and expand my business within all four of [CSU's brand] pillars - cultivating creativity, reimagining education, inspiring collaboration and expanding worlds," he recalls. "It was an incredible mixture of creative thinking, education, working with others and other unique professions, and learning to utilize other facets of business."

Lane credits Professor Johnny Ho and his "Productions and Operations Management" class with helping to re-energizing him and his approaches to owning a business.

"CSU's diversity of education offers an incredible array of skills - from marketing to economics to operations management. It truly teaches one to think in an entirely new way."

His professional and extracurricular interests are as diverse as his CSU educational experience. The dermatologist, clinical educator and Air National Guard flight surgeon is involved in hobbies ranging from the martial arts and competitive firearms to wakeboarding, woodworking and playing the guitar.

"My advice for current and future students is to maximize each and every class, regardless of how much you think you may or may not benefit from it," he emphasizes. "All of your classes can and will help you grow as an individual - and grow your passion."
