Biography
Geneil Perkins is a recent graduate of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where she earned the Doctor of Music degree in Voice with additional studies in vocology and music education. A passionate and holistic educator, she draws on over a decade of teaching experience to help students develop healthy, expressive, and confident voices. She has taught applied voice and class voice at both Brigham Young University and Indiana University, working with students across disciplines and levels of experience.
Her research focuses on vocal fach, development, and repertoire for singers at various stages, with particular emphasis on zwischenfach voices and other “in-between” vocal categories that often fall outside traditional classification systems. Through this work, she seeks to expand pedagogical frameworks to better support these singers and to promote more inclusive and individualized approaches to voice training.
As a performer, Perkins’ background includes operatic and concert work as well as professional choral experience. Favorite operatic roles include Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Dame Quickly (Falstaff), Prinz Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), and La Zia Principessa (Suor Angelica). She has performed with ensembles such as Brevitas and Seraphic Fire, appearing on several recordings, including the GRAMMY-nominated Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem.
Committed to continual growth as both an artist and teacher, she strives to instill in each student a love for music, curiosity about the voice, and the courage to communicate with authenticity and emotional depth.
