The Donald L. Jordan Center for Creative Writing

The Donald L. Jordan Center for Creative Writing supports the careers of English Majors at Columbus State University, with an emphasis on encouraging students enrolled in the creative writing program.

Study Abroad Service Trips

One of the premiere initiatives of the Jordan Endowment is providing funding for an annual Study Abroad Service Trip. For the past three years, CSU undergraduate English majors have traveled to the remote village of Vuelta Grande, Guatemala, to work with children teaching English in the mornings, and installing stoves in village homes in the afternoon. The Jordan Endowment covers flight, program, and food and lodging costs for at least eight to nine students. Recruiting and interviewing for this trip takes place in the fall. Accepted students take a Travel Writing Class (English 3107) during the spring, in conjunction with the trip, which occurs every March during spring break. Students are expected to write contemplative essays about their trip, making cultural and personal observations.
