William B. Turner Center for Servant Leadership

Prospective Students

Entering First Year Students

This application is for current high school seniors who would like to be considered for a stipend position in the undergraduate Servant Leadership Program. Stipend fellows are eligible for a scholarship in the amount of $2,500 per year, which is renewable for up to eight semesters.

Before beginning the application, students should be aware that there is an essay required. Because responses are not saved until the application is submitted, it is recommended that students draft their response to the prompt (included below) in a separate document before beginning the application. Copy and paste your essay when prompted.

The application will also prompt students to provide email addresses for three references. The application will not be considered complete, and the student will not be considered for an interview until the three letters of recommendation are submitted through the links that will be provided to those listed on the application. The letters of recommendation must be received by the application deadline. As a best practice, it is advised that students talk with their preferred references before submitting the application.

Our top applicants will be selected to come to Columbus State’s Main Campus for an interview with our panel of reviewers.

Essay prompt:

  • Please write an essay (approximately 500 words) in which you describe an experience you had in leadership or in service and how the experience impacted your life.

Our deadline for scholarship information has passed, but please send an email to ServantLeadership@columbusstate.edu for more information on the Servant Leadership Program.

Current CSU Students Interested in the Servant Leadership Program

Undergraduate students who would like to participate in the Servant Leadership Program upon transferring to Columbus State or after their initial freshman enrollment at Columbus State are welcome to apply. Being a Non-Stipend Fellow enables undergraduate students who are interested in leadership development to take the leadership seminars, participate in community service, and enjoy many of the same benefits of the Servant Leadership Program.

Students joining the Servant Leadership Program as a transfer student or after their initial freshman enrollment at Columbus State must first enroll in and pass LEAD 1705, which satisfies the Area D Institutional Option required in the core curriculum. Students should be enrolled in this course before completing this application, but those who have not yet taken the course are encouraged to connect with the staff of the Servant Leadership Program to discuss that class and their degree plan to determine their ability to complete the program. The staff can be reached by emailing servantleadership@columbusstate.edu.

Before beginning the application, students should be aware that the application will require students to list a CSU faculty member to serve as a reference. Students will list the faculty member‘s CSU email address where that person will automatically receive a link to a recommendation form. As a best practice, it is advised that students talk with their recommender before submitting this application.
