Biography
Shannon Godlove earned her BA in Medieval Studies from Smith College and an MA and PhD in English with a concentration in medieval literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She currently serves as Assistant Professor of English and Coordinator of the Medieval and Renaissance Studies Certificate Program at CSU, and teaches courses in Medieval Literature, Chaucer, Old English, and History of the English Language as well as World Literature and Composition. In 2016, she was awarded the Columbus State University Teaching Excellence Award, and was CSU's nominee for the University System of Georgia's Felton J. Jenkins, Jr. Hall of Fame Faculty Award. She is CSU's Faculty-in-Residence for RiverPark Campus student housing.
She has published articles in journals including Studies in Philology, PQ: Philological Quarterly, Chaucer Review, and Early Medieval Europe. Her research mainly explores the influence of concepts of apostleship, mission, and preaching on the constructions of authorship and sanctity in Anglo-Saxon religious literature. She also writes on Old Norse-Icelandic and Middle English works and is interested in issues of travel, place, and religious and cultural identity throughout the Middle Ages.
