General Collection Development Policy

Mission of the Simon Schwob Memorial Library

Columbus State University Libraries supports the University's curricular, research, cultural and community service objectives by providing library/information resources, instruction and other services that promote and enrich intellectual and personal growth and scholarship.

Purpose of the Collection Development Policy

The chief purpose of the Collection Development Policy is to establish library materials selection and maintenance guidelines which will enable the Simon Schwob Memorial Library to provide effective support for the University’s instructional programs.

General Guidelines

The primary responsibility for collection development rests with the Dean of Libraries and members of the Library faculty.  Teaching faculty are encouraged to request resources and materials to support their instructional programs and research needs.  Subject librarians will make the final determination for his or her own area.

The Columbus State University Libraries affirms its support of intellectual freedom as expressed in the American Library Association’s policy statements: Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read, and Intellectual Freedom Statement; and its responsibility to make available to its user population materials representing a wide range of viewpoints.
