Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences

Welcome from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at Columbus State University. We serve over 600 students and offer several academic programs preparing students for a variety of health-related professions. Our faculty are committed to ensuring student success through rigorous academic programs and hands-on learning experiences.

Undergraduate students can choose from a variety of programs including the B.S. in Kinesiology with concentrations in Exercise Science and Health & Physical Education, as well as the B.S. in Health Science. For those pursuing advanced studies, we offer graduate programs such as the Master of Public Health and M.Ed. or M.A.T. in Health & Physical Education. Graduates of our programs can pursue careers such as health education specialist, K-12 health & physical education teacher, exercise physiologist, public health professional, strength & conditioning coach, and others. Qualified student graduates may go on to attend graduate medical programs such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, physician assistant, or a variety of other graduate school options.

Our department also offers Lifetime Wellness (KINS 1106) and other physical activity courses which fulfill the wellness requirement for undergraduate students. The human physiology lab is equipped with cutting-edge technology including the True-One 2410 Metabolic Measurement System (ParvoMedic), Lunar Prodigy DXA (G.E.), SphygmoCor XCEL PDA (Cardiex), Bod Pod (COSMED Inc.), Excalibur Sport Anaerobic Power System (LODEBV), LOGIQ Ultrasound (GE), Ergomedic 894E Peak Bike (Monark), Quinton Q4500 Stress Test System, Accupower portable forceplate, and more.

Our home office is located on the main campus Lumpkin 250, with other offices in the Health & Wellness building (Exercise Science) and Frank Brown Hall (Health Science and Public Health). Please reach out with any questions you may have.
