About the Program
Educate with Purpose
The Special Education program at Columbus State University equips future teachers with a strong foundation in contemporary theory and research. In the first two years, you will complete pre-professional coursework to qualify for admission into teacher education. From there, campus and field-based courses provide hands-on training, culminating in a semester of student teaching during your senior year. This program prepares you for entry-level (T-4) Georgia certification in Special Education. You will be prepared to teach preschool and school-age children with a focus on reading instruction, while also providing pathways into childcare leadership, social services, and early intervention.
