The UTeach program and the Earth and Space Science department at Columbus State University gave me early, meaningful opportunities in both education and geosciences that heavily influenced my teaching philosophy. Hands-on fieldwork and innovative classroom experiences taught me to center instruction on real-world phenomena and inquiry, allowing students to experience the same sense of discovery as scientists do. Because of these programs, I am able to share personal connections to my content with students and inspire them to get excited about science!
