Woodruff Dam/ Fort Gains Dam Photographs, SMC 153

Organizational Note

The Jim Woodruff Dam is a hydroelectric dam located on the Apalachicola River where the Flint and Chattahoochee Rivers meet and impounds Lake Seminole. The dam is named for James W. Woodruff, Sr., a Georgia businessman who spearheaded the project. The dam's construction began in 1947 and opening in 1957. The photographs were taken October 1955 with Sen. Walter F. George in attendance.

Scope and Content

Collection consists of fourteen photographs of the groundbreaking and parade for the Jim Woodruff Dam located on the Georgia, Alabama, and Florida line. Photographs are numbered in the bottom right corner with some numbers/images missing in the sequence.1955 1 Folder
