Nothing is known about Ernest J. Hess. He is not listed in the city directories of Columbus, Georgia.

Scope and Content

This small collection consists of one brown leather photograph album inscribed with the name Ernest J. Hess and dated 1901. The photos are trimmed and arranged artistically with framing and labelling. They cover Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Camden and Atlantic City, New Jersey, Baltimore, Niagara Falls, Montgomery, Alabama, Chicago, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Grand Haven, Michigan, Milwaukee, Racine, Wisconsin, Denver, Pueblo, Colorado, Victor, Colorado and Pikes Peak. There are 2 loose photographs dated 1905 of Colorado Springs.

Provenance

This photograph album was donated on February 3, 2017 to the Columbus State University Archives by Matthias Smith, a student at Columbus State University who is very interested in the history of the area. He purchased it for $2.00 at a downtown Columbus bazaar in 2010.
