Organizational Note

Alvin L. McLendon was one of the original members of the faculty of Columbus Community College when it opened in 1959. It was the predecessor to Columbus College, which in turn became Columbus State University.

Scope and Content

This collection includes political materials relating to Democratic Party activities in Georgia in the 1910s. Dr. McLendon found them among his father's papers. This collection was donated to the Archives by Dr. Alvin L. McLendon, Jr. in 1977.

Note to Researchers

A sheet in the administrative file indicates that Dr. McLendon also donated a photo of O. B. Stevens (b. August 1, 1847), who served as both the Commissioner of Agriculture and on the Railroad Commission of Georgia. This may be the photo currently in folder 122, photo number 646 in the Historic Photographs collection.
