Men's Progressive Club (MC 391)

Organizational Note

The Men's Progressive Club, Incorporated was formed was founded in Columbus, Georgia on November 29, 1949. According to a document in the file: "The club was created during an era of racial unrest and turbulence within the minority population in the city of Columbus. It was felt that this organization was needed to serve as an intermediary to help solve the alleviate problems for the oppressed." The motto of the Club was: " Securing the citizenship for all minorities and believing unreservedly in fundamental democratic principles."

Scope and Content

This contains the programs for the annual recognition of the Club's Man of the Year for 1983 through 1996. Also included are: a blank application for membership; a list of Man of the Year recipients from 1950 through1995; an undated newspaper clipping regarding the annual award, and two sheets of paper containing parts of the constitution or perhaps the articles of incorporation of the Club.
