Mary Alice Montgomery Music Collection (MC 350)

Biographical Note

Mary Alice Chitty Montgomery is an accomplished pianist living in Harris County and Columbus. Her formal training started at age 6, ending with her graduation from Shorter College with an Honor of Music Award. She took summer scholarship classes at both the Cincinnati Conservatory and Julliard School of Music. She returned to Shorter to teach for 2 years. After marriage to George Montgomery, she taught private piano lessons in Columbus, Midland and Harris County, Georgia while raising four children. Mrs . Montgomery also performed several times with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. She continued teaching until the summer of 2013. She passed away July 16, 2017.

Scope and Content

The contents of this small collection include many individual pieces of sheet music , a program from Reinhart College and three church music hymn books, one of which is a shaped-note edition.

Provenance

This collection was donated to the Schwob Music School and then to the CSU Archives by the family of Mary Alice Montgomery, led by Eve Coulliette, her daughter, in October 2014.
