Native American Dictionary Collection (MC 316)

Scope and Content

This Native American Dictionary Collection contains approximately 1650 slips, arranged alphabetically by the Creek term taken from the Comparative Dictionary of Creek, Hitchiti, Alibama, Koasati, Choctaw, Yuchi, Natchez and Shawnee compiled by General Albert Pike with additions by Mrs. E. A. Robinson. It consists of 1 small box (.25 l.f.) with 16 folders.

Permission to Publish

Permission to publish material from the Native American Dictionary Collection must be obtained from the Columbus State University Archives at Columbus State University. Use of the following credit line for publication or exhibit is required:

Provenance

The Native American Dictionary Collection was given to the Columbus State University Archives in the fall of 2013 by the director of the Columbus Public Library when they closed their archival section. It was formerly labeled as MC 044 by the Public Library and received by them in January 1969.
