Richard H. Hyatt Papers (MC224)

Biographical Note

Richard Hyatt was born May11, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia. He worked for newspapers in Atlanta and Columbus, Georgia for 40 years, both as a sportswriter and a columnist. He is also the author of eleven books. He retired from the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer at the end of January, 2008. Scope and Content

This collection consists of 6 boxes of research notes, publications, clippings, photographs, videotapes and audiotapes. In addition to these materials, he also donated over 300 books which have been cataloged in the Columbus State University on-line system, but are held in the Archives stacks.

The Carters of Plains

These folders contain drafts of the flap text, prologue, tables of contents and chapter summaries of Hyatt's book on the Carter family. The multiple drafts of the table of contents and the chapter summaries indicate that the order of chapters and the chapter numbers changed. The chapters are filed in the order as indicated on the first page of each chapter, although the running page numbers of each chapter do not reflect the new number.

Series 3 - Sports Writing

This series consists of Richard Hyatt's sports writing, concentrating of the Southern Open Golf tournament, earlier known as the Green Island Invitation Pro-Am Tournament and after 1990 as the Buick Southern Open.

Calley, Review Tape from Court TV (nd); Hughston Spirts Medicine Foundation: A Tribute of Dr. Jack Chandler Hughston (11/17/1990); Chattahoochee River: Voyage of Discovery Columbus to Apalachicola (nd); two unlabeled tapes.
