Notice Under the Americans With Disabilities Act

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended ("ADA"), Columbus State University ("CSU" or the "University") does not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities.

I. Employment

CSU does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with applicable requirements of Title I of the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other applicable laws prohibiting disability discrimination in employment.

II. Students

III. Programs, Services, and Activities

CSU will make reasonable modifications to its policies, practices, and procedures when necessary to avoid discrimination on the basis of disability, unless the University can demonstrate that making the modification would fundamentally alter the nature of the service, program, or activity.

A person with a disability who requires a reasonable modification, auxiliary aid or service, accessible format, or other disability-related assistance to participate in a CSU program, service, activity, or event should contact the sponsoring University department or the University's ADA Title II Coordinator(s) as early as possible:

CSU will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids and services or reasonable modifications.

The ADA does not require CSU to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services or impose an undue financial or administrative burden. Any determination that a requested action would constitute a fundamental alteration or undue financial or administrative burden will be made in accordance with applicable law.

IV. Effective Communication

Upon request, CSU will provide appropriate auxiliary aids and services to qualified individuals with disabilities when necessary to ensure effective communication, unless doing so would result in a fundamental alteration or undue financial or administrative burden.

Requests should be made as early as possible to allow sufficient time for the University to evaluate and arrange the requested aid or service.

VI. Complaints and Grievance Procedure

Any employee who believes that CSU has discriminated against them on the basis of disability in violation of Title II of the ADA may file a grievance under the University's ADA Title II Grievance Procedure (PDF).

Any student who believes that CSU has discriminated against them on the basis of disability in violation of Title II of the ADA may file a grievance under the Student Disability Accommodation Grievance Procedure (PDF).

Questions concerning this Notice, Title II of the ADA, or access to CSU's programs, services, or activities may be directed to the University's ADA Title II Coordinators.

VII. External Rights

Use of the University's grievance procedure is not a prerequisite to pursuing any external remedy available under applicable law and does not extend any deadline for filing a complaint with an external agency or pursuing another legal remedy. Individuals may also have the right to file a complaint with an appropriate federal or state agency, including the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, as applicable.
