Interfraternity Council (IFC)

Interfraternity Council Logo Who We Are

The Interfraternity Council is the governing body for the national men's fraternities with active chapters on campus.

We, the Interfraternity Council, exist to promote the shared interests and values of our member fraternities: leadership, service, brotherhood and scholarship. We believe in Fraternity and that the shared values of Fraternity drive the IFC to create better communities, better chapters and better men.

We work to advance the academic mission of the host institution, to enable fraternal organizations to grow and thrive through collaboration and teamwork, to provide an outlet for self-governance and accountability, and to model and teach ethical leadership. In a spirit of mutual support and betterment, we, the men of the Interfraternity Council, pledge to elevate the Ritual and the values of the member organizations.

The purpose of the Interfraternity Council shall be to:

  • To achieve and maintain Greek unity, brotherhood, and support of Greek Life.
  • To aid Greek students in their decisions and challenges in their university years and beyond.
  • To promote the interests of the University
  • To promote the interests of the Fraternities within the IFC
  • To promote the interests of the University's Greek Life
  • To ensure the cooperation between Greek organizations and the university community so that the condition and relations of the Greek life will be positively sustained.
  • To ensure cooperation among the Greek organizations of the campus.
  • To aid all IFC fraternities in the recruitment process
  • To aid all IFC fraternities in the pursuit of only the most quality men.

How to Join an IFC Fraternity

At the beginning of the fall and spring semesters, the Interfraternity Council holds its Formal Recruitment process. IFC Recruitment gives potential members the opportunity to meet members of each fraternity. The IFC Recruitment process is one of mutual selection: the fraternities decide which recruits they wish to invite into membership, and the recruits choose which fraternity they wish to join. Each organization will host individual recruitment events in various locations on campus and throughout the Columbus area. Eating lunch together, playing sports, completing service projects, meeting alumni, viewing slideshows or video presentations, and just asking questions of fraternity members in a casual atmosphere are a few examples of things potential members might do during IFC Recruitment. The formal process lasts one week and allows students the opportunity to explore Fraternity & Sorority Life without joining any particular fraternity. At the conclusion of recruitment, each fraternity extends "bids," or offers of membership, to men that it wishes to be part of its organization.

Requirements to Join an IFC Fraternity

To join an IFC fraternity and participate in rush, prospective members must attend event(s) throughout rush week(s). Upon accepting a Bid of Membership, there is a $10.00 non-refundable recruitment fee. Each organization has its own requirements set by their (inter)national organization and CSU chapter.

Please contact the CSU chapter that you are interested in more information regarding specific chapter requirements.
