Biography
Dr. Melissa M. Young is an accomplished higher education administrator and educator
with extensive experience in academic advising, student support services, and program
management. She currently serves as the Assistant Vice President for Student Success,
where she leads student success initiatives such as advising, tutoring, and first-year
experience. Her leadership has been instrumental in aligning advising strategies with
university goals and initiatives such as Complete College Georgia and the Momentum
Approach.
Dr. Young earned her Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Leadership in Higher Education
Administration from Columbus State University in 2021. She also holds a Master of
Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Chaminade University of Honolulu.
Her career at Columbus State University includes roles such as Director and Assistant
Director of CSU ADVISE, Academic Advisor, and Transfer Counselor. Prior to joining
Columbus State University, she was a Program Coordinator at Chaminade University of
Honolulu and a Special Education Instructor at Mililani Middle School.
Dr. Young's academic contributions include part-time faculty positions in the College
of Education & Health Professions and the College of Letters & Sciences at Columbus
State University, and the College of Education at Chaminade University of Honolulu.
She has published research on student retention and academic success and has presented
at numerous conferences on advising and student success strategies.
