Neal earned his BS in Math and MS in Applied Computer Science from CSU. He was awarded a PhD in Computer Science and Software Engineering from Auburn. Neal has been teaching computer related subjects since 1961 and full time at CSU for 12 years. After two years in the Army at Ft. Moore, he spent three years in the Civil Service at Ft. Moore. After leaving civil service, he was one of four partners that started a service bureau originally names Automated Information Management Systems (AIMS.) We did mostly payrolls and inventory for businesses like Dolly Madison and Sunshine Biscuits and General Ledger processing for several accounting firms.

When personal computers were introduced he sold computers and printers to local companies and Ft. Moore. He then worked for Trust Company of Columbus for 13 years as VP of Data Processing and President of Databanc. Databanc did remote processing for banks in Opelika and Lumpkin in addition to Trust Company of Columbus. AFLAC needed someone who knew the IBM 1401 as they had a system with only object code (no source) running under 1401 simulation and their new computer would not support 1401 simulation. The agent commission system was converted to IBM assembler language from 1401 assembler and after the project ended, he was hired by AFLAC. After 13 years at AFLAC he received an MS from CSU and was hired to teach in the ICAPP program.

Neal teaches courses in COBOL, CICS, Database, and Software Engineering, and Robotics. Research interests include installing and testing different software simulation systems for robotics testing as budget limitations preclude purchasing much in the way of robotics hardware. He enjoys flying private planes, sport shooting, reading, and is a lifelong learner.
