Martha Ragan

Archival Assistant

Martha Ragan serves as a part-time archival assistant in our CSU Archives. After having retired from the Muscogee County School District after 31 years as a career media specialist, i.e. children's librarian, Martha was asked to come work part-time in the reference department of the CSU Library. Eleven years later she is still here, having discovered that the archives is her love: old books, old papers, personal letters, etc.... She enjoys helping patrons find materials of interest to their search. She also served as the Children's Librarian for the public library when it was the Bradley Library (1980-1983). She dabbles in genealogy and is a member of the local genealogic society. Martha also is a private archival consultant, doing work for local families.

Martha's undergraduate degree is from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in elementary education/sociology. She received her Masters of Library Science from the University of Maryland at College Park. Having been born and raised in Massachusetts of English parentage, Martha calls Columbus home after 41 years. She met her husband Greg, a Columbus native, while he was in the Air Force and she worked for the Defense Department in Washington, D.C. They have one son Matt , a local landscape designer.

Needlework, quilting, and knitting are crafts that she favors. She is a member of two local quilt guilds, GALA of Columbus, and the Cotton Boll Quilters in Auburn, Alabama. She can be found most mornings at the downtown Y where she is a member of the Silver Sneakers.
