Katrin Meidell

Biography
Violist Katrin Meidell, DMA, enjoys an active international career as a performer, pedagogue, and lecturer. Her work has taken her throughout the United States and to Canada, Finland, Austria, Poland, Brazil, the Netherlands, Thailand, and New Zealand. She has published articles in American String Teacher and the Journal of the American Viola Society.
A dedicated leader within the American Viola Society (AVS), Dr. Meidell has served the organization in numerous capacities, from volunteer to Board member. She organized and hosted the 2022 American Viola Society Festival & 47th International Viola Congress and currently serves as Secretary of the AVS, a position she assumed in July 2024.
Dr. Meidell is a reviewer for American String Teacher and previously served on the American String Teachers Association Health and Wellness Committee, where she contributed her expertise towards the health and wellness of string players. A recognized specialist in the Karen Tuttle Coordination method, she has presented master classes and lectures at International Viola Congresses in Thailand and the Netherlands, the Poznan International Viola Forum (Poland), the University of North Texas, Florida State University, the University of Alabama, Boston University, and numerous other institutions.
Dr. Meidell is Professor of Viola at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. She holds degrees from Boston University, New England Conservatory, and the University of North Texas, where she studied viola with Michelle LaCourse, Carol Rodland, and Dr. Susan Dubois. Before dedicating herself to the viola, she studied violin with Geda Khatutskaya and Dana Mazurkevich.
