Biography

Dr. Natasha Hourel joined Columbus State University faculty as Assistant Professor in 2019. Her teaching focuses on Health Science courses, on topics, such as behavioral determinants of health and disease, health education, school health, death and dying and bioethics. She also serves as the faculty advisor for Sigma Alpha Pi, leadership honor society. Her doctoral studies focused on the influence of African American parenting behaviors on adolescent weight status.

Dr. Hourel is a scholar-practitioner whose industry background includes clinical and biomedical research, regulatory compliance, and environmental health inspection in private, state, and academic institutions, including Auburn University and Emory University. She has performed research on health behaviors at the practitioner and educational levels. Her research interests include health behaviors, health disparities and health equity, minority and women’s health issues, nutrition and weight-related health problems, infectious diseases and clinical research.

She is a member of the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA), the American Public Health Association (APHA), Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE), Regulatory Affairs Professional Society (RAPS), and the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE America). She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®).
