Biography

Kirk C. Heriot is the Ray and Evelyn Crowley Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship in the Turner College of Business & Technology. He joined the faculty in 2006 after having served on the faculties at universities in SC, KY, and Pennsylvania. Kirk has published over 25 journal articles in such leading publications as the Journal of Small Business Management, Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship, Journal of Small Business Strategy, and the Journal of Private Enterprise. His research interests focus on determinants of new venture creation, entrepreneurship education, and issues related to managing small firms. In 2008, Kirk was awarded the Faculty Research and Scholarship Award at CSU.

Prior to joining the academy, Dr. Heriot was an officer in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve serving in logistics and engineering units attaining the rank of Major. Following the completion of his MBA, Kirk worked in operations management for Milliken & Company. Kirk also worked as a consultant at the Clemson Small Business Development Center from 1987-1995 assisting over 300 clients. At CSU, Kirk has continued his efforts in outreach. His students have engaged in Junior Achievement projects and assisted small firms with focused consulting projects. He also organized the first business plan competition at the university in 2011.
