Biography

Tom Delaney is a published author (As If There Were No Tomorrow – Saga of a Jailhouse Teacher) and has more than three decades of experience on the secondary and post-secondary levels as an English instructor.  He served as a teacher and administrator for thirty years with the Education Division of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. It was during this time that he established a literary magazine, Reaching Out, that featured the writing skills of incarcerated students, as well as those of middle and high school students from across the country. For two years, he was a field editor for Learning Magazine. And for six summers he worked part-time as an adjunct instructor for The University of Georgia, conducting innovative teaching seminars on the theme, “Teaching the Difficult to Teach.” He was awarded Columbus State University’s “Outstanding Teacher of English” award in 2010 and again in 2013.

Nationally, Tom has been recognized by Learning Magazine as its 1993 “Professional Best Educator,” by Walt Disney as the “English Teacher of 1994,” by Milken Family Foundation as its top educator of 1994, and by The Atlanta Journal/Constitution’s as its “Honor Teacher” of 1995.
