Biography

Taylor Deane is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History at the University of Memphis, focusing on ancient Egyptian history. She holds a Master's degree in Art History from Georgia State University and a B.F.A. in Art from Columbus State University.

She has participated in two University of Memphis research projects in Egypt: the Karnak Great Hypostyle Hall Project and Mission to Theban Tomb 16. Most recently, Taylor conducted fieldwork in Luxor as a 2019-2020 American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) Fellow for her dissertation, "'Official' Obliteration: Text and Image Destruction in Eighteenth Dynasty Non-Royal Theban Tombs." This research explores the phenomenon in which contemporaries intentionally damaged painted and carved aspects of the deceased, including his image, name, and titles, within the tomb chapels of nearly two dozen Eighteenth Dynasty officials as the result of their memory sanction.
