Biography

Dr. Jan Burcham holds the Fletcher Distinguished Chair in Teacher Education and is Professor of Early Childhood Education at Columbus State University. She also serves as the COEHP Associate Dean for Education. She received her B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Auburn University, M.A. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education from Auburn University. Dr. Burcham taught in public schools in Alabama and was a professor at Troy State University Dothan prior to coming to CSU. She has numerous publications and has conducted a multitude of presentations and workshops at local, state, and national conferences. She also has conducted presentations and professional develop internationally. She participated in a collaborative effort to develop a curriculum for preschool children in China and traveled to Beijing, China to conduct professional development for the teachers as well as presenting at the Oxford Round Table on Early Childhood Education at Oxford University in England. Dr. Burcham served previously as the Editor of Perspectives in Learning: A Journal of the College of Education and on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Early Childhood Teacher Education. She was named the 2017 Outstanding Early Childhood Teacher Educator by the National Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators.
