The Center for Health Disparities and Community Based Research
The Center for Health Disparities and Community-Based Research is dedicated to:
- Improving health in vulnerable communities and to meeting community health needs through collaborative work with local non-profit organizations.
- The Center also provides service-learning and research opportunities for students in the College of Education and Health Professions in order to provide real-world experiences to prepare graduates for the workforce and graduate education.
Our Mission
The mission of the Center is to reduce health disparities and improve health across the region through research and public health intervention co-developed with community partners.
Our Vision
Our vision is to positively impact health in West Central Georgia. To make a positive impact, we will build partnerships with organizations committed to improving health. We will work to reduce health disparities and to improve health for all in the region through community-based research and public health programs. We will also make a positive impact by involving our students to help prepare them for the workforce and advanced educational opportunities.
Our Goals
Community Outreach
To develop and evaluate sustainable and generalizable community-engaged approaches for improving the social determinants of health in ways that promote individual and community health.
Collaboration
To work alongside with the Department of Kinesiology and of Health Sciences faculty and staff associated with the center to provide service-learning activities and research opportunities for students in the College of Education and Health Profession in order to provide real-world experiences to prepare graduates for the workforce and graduate education.
