August 19, 2020 - A Return-to-Campus Update
Dear Students and Employees:
"Cougars Care" has been our adopted slogan as we planned for our first week of fall classes — and so far, you have taken that sentiment to heart! At both campuses, students, faculty and staff have been wearing masks, remaining physically distanced from others where possible, and showing patience and understanding to one another.
As we navigate the pandemic's effects on our campus, sharing information will be essential. One way you can continue demonstrating that "Cougars Care" is immediately reporting if you suspect you've been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or if you display symptoms of or test positive for COVID-19. Reporting this information is vital to our contact tracing protocols. Learn how to do so at #.
In return, we commit to sharing regular updates on the number of active COVID-19 cases at CSU — which today stands at eight: two employees and six students. Most of those reports predate Monday's start of classes and involve off-campus students, so they are following quarantine procedures at home.
Sharing this data will hopefully keep the seriousness of the virus — and the necessity for safety precautions like face coverings and physical distancing — top of mind. A weekly update of the number of active COVID-19 cases will be aggregated and available on the university's Return-to-Campus website. This information will abide by FERPA and HIPPA guidelines regarding privacy and the disclosure of confidential information.
We will continue to share updates and seek your questions and concerns on our Return-to-Campus website at https://www.columbusstate.edu/covid-response/. Please continue to wash your hands, wear a mask, practice physical distancing, and self-report to protect yourself and others.
Dr. Chip Reese
Chair, Return-to-Campus Task Force and Associate Vice President, Student Affairs
