July 14th, 2020 - President Markwood's Message to Students and Families
Hello CSU Students and Families,
We are excited about our plans to open the fall semester with you. We plan for all facilities to be open and accessible to our students, faculty, and staff. COVID-19 safety precautions have been taken in each campus building to protect our CSU community. This means that things will look a little different on campus, but that’s okay. Together, we will continue to navigate the challenges that COVID-19 presents to us, and we will adjust our policies and protocols as needed.
Your safety, and the safety of our faculty, staff, and campus community, are our highest priority. While the public health situation may impact the way we do things, know that we will still continue to provide each of you with the quality educational experience that we have pledged to provide.
We know that you have concerns and questions about how we will create a healthy and safe campus environment, and how you can help.
Please keep in mind that our current Return-to-Campus plan has to remain flexible to adjust to guidelines from the CDC and the University System of Georgia. For that reason, and many others, we must leave room to adapt accordingly and in the best interest of everyone’s health and safety.
Our entire Return-to-Campus plan can be found on our webpage, https://www.columbusstate.edu/covid-response/, where you can also monitor future updates. We will continue to communicate the latest information to you via email, our website, social media, and through some upcoming videos with me and some of your fellow Cougars on how you can help us create the safest campus possible. In the meantime, our campus offices remain closed to the public until further notice, but please reach out to our faculty and staff by email or online if needed.
While our Return-To-Campus Task Force continues to manage the challenges created by the pandemic, we wanted to share some highlights of the plan and the FAQs we have received so far. If you have any additional questions, concerns, or ideas, please share them through our portal, https://columbusstate.formstack.com/forms/returning_to_campus_ideas_and_questions.
We are all feeling a little concerned and anxious about how things are going to look for us during the fall semester. In the weeks ahead, we will work diligently to refine our preparations to create a safe, productive educational environment.
Our priority is the safety of our entire campus community and the educational success of our students. We will continue to follow the directives of the USG and various health agencies on the most appropriate path forward. As we do, we will continue to keep you informed as our planning progresses, as well as any change in our strategy for the fall semester by email, social media, and our resource page, https://www.columbusstate.edu/covid-response/schedule.php.
Thank you for trusting us with your educational journey.
Welcome (or welcome back) to Cougar Nation!
President Chris Markwood
