June 10, 2020 - A Message from President Markwood
Our return to campus is nearly upon us and I could not be more excited to take in the quad, listen as the clock tower chimes keep time, and, most of all, see some familiar faces! While I have been impressed and inspired by your hard work and dedication during our time apart, I am very much looking forward to coming back together over the next few months as we work through the stages of our Return to Campus plan and prepare for face-to-face instruction in the fall.
Last week, I wrote to you regarding our core value of Inclusion. This week, on the verge of our return, I would like us all to ruminate on our core value of Excellence. Our commitment to excellence means that we have and will always observe and adhere to best practices in teaching and learning, scholarship and creative activity, student engagement, and cultural enrichment; and, in doing so, we will create a campus environment in which we — faculty, staff, and students alike — can excel.
>Personal and professional excellence is essential to the success of our current summer classes and the upcoming fall semester. Faculty — strive to build upon your incredible ability to adapt to online learning last spring; take what you learned on-the-fly last semester and let it be your guide as we continue to navigate this new normal moving forward. Staff — the support you provided while under the shelter-in-place order was indispensable to maintaining the high level of service to which our students are accustomed, and I have no doubt that you will return to campus inspired, invigorated, and motivated, knowing that no matter what you are faced with, you can overcome any obstacle and succeed in any endeavor.
I hope that you have been able to spend some time digesting our Return to Campus Plan and that the communication materials we provided were helpful in your preparations for the summer semester. We will be posting more videos this week to highlight some of the more detailed aspects of the plan; and as always, if you have any feedback or questions regarding the Returning to Campus Plan, please visit the portal.
Thank you again for all you do for our students, our community, and for each other.
I look forward to seeing you back on campus soon.
President Chris Markwood
