May 7, 2020 - President Markwood's Message
The Board of Regents met today in a called meeting to discuss budget reductions. CSU and our sister institutions have been charged to create a plan to reduce budgets by 14%. While we have already been working on this plan, new specifics were announced today.
The following statement was released today from the system office. "The Board’s guidance, to be reflected in each campus plan, requires faculty and staff at all 26 USG colleges and universities as well as the USO to take a minimum number of days of unpaid time off depending on their salary range, with the exception of those with the lowest base salaries. For most employees, this means either 4 furlough days or 8 furlough days, depending on their salary. Those with the highest base salaries will be required to take 16 furlough days, or the equivalent of a 6.2% pay reduction." The entire press release is available on our website, https://www.columbusstate.edu/covid-response/updates/5-7-bor-potential-reductions.php.
There is also some good news I want to share with you today.
Nine work groups of faculty and staff are working intensely to prepare for a return to campus in the Fall. There is a portal on our CSU website where you can offer suggestions and pose questions, https://columbusstate.formstack.com/forms/returning_to_campus_ideas_and_questions.
Your messages are sent directly to the workgroups. Please be engaged in the process.
Plans are in place to distribute grants to more than 4,200 students who are dealing with expenses and disruptions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds are provided by a Federal Department of Education CARES Act grant, which awarded nearly $3.2 million to CSU for the purpose of providing financial assistance to eligible students. Check our website to see the details of eligibility and other details.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have taken positive steps to make CSU more accessible to prospective and returning students. CSU has reduced fees and online tuition for the summer 2020 semester, waived the application for incoming students until August 15 and waived SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT test score requirements for those applying for the summer or fall 2020 semesters.
These times are tough, but we can be positive because we are, Creative to the Core!
Thank you for all you do for our students, our community, and each other.
