May 28, 2020 - Message from President Markwood
The Executive Leadership Team met this morning to discuss, among other matters, our return to campus. We are putting a plan into motion to begin preparations for phase one of returning to campus. Faculty and staff members serving on our various Return to Campus Task Force work groups — with guidance and leadership from the University System of Georgia, state public health officials, and the governor’s office — have devised a detailed plan to ensure we move forward deliberately, efficiently, and, above all, safely.
I know that many of you have questions regarding our initial return to campus. The Communications Task Force met this afternoon to initiate a comprehensive communication plan that will answer many questions and guide faculty and staff to the appropriate contacts for more complex responses. The Task Force was adamant that the first thing we communicate is our concern for the health and wellbeing of our CSU family. I join my colleagues on this Task Force in making that commitment.
I want to again thank and commend you for your incredible response to this unprecedented crisis. This institution is a well-oiled machine when we work together, myriad moving pieces operating in unison to achieve a common goal. It’s impressive when circumstances are ideal — it’s awe-inspiring and encouraging to watch it happen, from a social distance, during times of crisis and uncertainty. These last few months have not been easy, and there are likely more challenging days ahead; but when things get tough and circumstances take a turn, remember what you accomplished last semester and know that you are capable of rising to any and every challenge to which you are faced.
I am proud of what you’ve achieved, excited to see what you accomplish next, and inspired to work alongside you as we continue operating in unison to achieve a common goal: providing our students with a collegiate experience that will prepare them to change the world for the better.
Have a great day and thank you for all you do for our students, our community, and for each other.
President Chris Markwood
