May 12, 2020 - Message from President Markwood
None of us could have predicted the level of change we have experienced over the last several weeks. We've made the appropriate adjustments, and now we are looking toward the future of CSU with hope and positive expectations.
I am well aware and understand the concern and anxiety that our campus community must be feeling regarding the recent budget reduction announcement. We are not alone in this current economic environment, as all our sister institutions are being asked to adjust as well. With your input, our leadership will make the required budget adjustments, while attempting to minimize the negative impact on our students, staff and faculty. We will not lose sight that we must continue to provide the highest quality education possible at CSU. Our students deserve nothing less!
With the close of the spring semester, I want to thank our faculty and staff for making the adjustments from face to face to online class delivery as smooth as possible. Your commitment to our students was impressive, whether you taught a class or made a phone call to make sure our students had what they needed to successfully complete the semester.
I hope you will join me and Dr. Bordelon on Friday to celebrate the accomplishments of our Class of 2020 during our virtual conferring of degrees on our website, https://graduation.columbusstate.edu/. We will have a special congratulatory message for our graduates. This will not be a full commencement ceremony as we are planning to have a celebration for our graduates either in August or December.
We are in the next phase in our planning to return to campus in the fall, and our workgroups have a huge task to create a plan for us to safely resume face to face classes while modeling social distancing practices. Please share your ideas and questions on our portal, https://columbusstate.formstack.com/forms/returning_to_campus_ideas_and_questions.
These challenges will continue but they will also reveal that our campus community is full of compassionate and committed faculty and staff, and I am proud to be part of the CSU community. Please continue to rise to meet our current challenges, and create new ways to meet the new challenges ahead.
Thank you for all you do for our students, our community, and each other.
President Chris Markwood
