COVID-19 Response and Updates

April 30, 2020 - President Markwood's Message

Good afternoon,

I understand we are all feeling a little concerned and anxious about how things are going to look for us in the fall semester. In the weeks ahead, we will work diligently to refine our preparations to create a safe, productive educational environment.

This week, I have been connecting with members of our Return to Campus Taskforce workgroups and charging them to develop a plan for returning to face to face instruction in the fall, while abiding by social distancing guidelines. This workgroup structure is being followed by all USG institutions. You are encouraged to share any ideas or concerns with any of the members of the workgroup. We will need to be creative and innovative as we approach the return to campus.

Our University-level plan will be flexible and take into account the specific needs of many units across the campus. All of you have done such an outstanding job in a teleworking environment and many will continue this arrangement in the months ahead as the phased return-to-campus process is implemented.

We will continue to keep you informed as our planning progresses, as well as any changes in our strategy for the fall semester by email, social media, and our resource page, https://www.columbusstate.edu/covid/.

Our priority is the safety of the entire campus community and the educational success of our students. We will continue to follow the directives of the USG and various health agencies on the most appropriate path forward. We all need to remain flexible because if there is one thing we have learned through this pandemic is things can change quickly.

I remain confident and optimistic in our future as we respond to this crisis and create a better Columbus State University.

Thank you for all you do for our students, our community, and each other.
