COVID-19 Response and Updates

May 12, 2021 - COVID-19 Weekly Update

Mobile vaccine clinic coming to CSU Thursday

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

We have a few announcements and reminders regarding COVID-related matters at Columbus State University as we wind down the spring semester and ready for the start of the summer semester on Monday, May 17:

Vaccine mobile clinic coming Thursday to Main Campus

The Georgia Department of Public Health will host a mobile vaccination clinic in the Cunningham Center’s lower parking lot tomorrow, Thursday, May 13, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The drive-up/walk-up clinic is open to CSU students and employees, as well as family and community members aged 18 and older. Pre-registration at https://gta-vras.powerappsportals.us/en-US is encouraged so adequate supplies are available.

GDPH plans a follow-up mobile clinic, again in the Cunningham Center’s lower parking lot, on Thursday, June 10. It plans to administer the Moderna vaccine at both times.

Changes to Public Health Guidelines

On May 17, the university will relax its current outdoor face-covering mandate, per USG guidance and prevailing CDC recommendations. Wearing masks while walking across campus or in outdoor locations where physical distancing is possible will no longer be required (but still recommended) of students, employees and visitors. Face coverings will still be required inside CSU’s facilities.

A Word of Caution

Relaxing these guidelines does not mean the threat of being exposed to or contracting COVID-19 has passed. CSU continues to encourage everyone to get vaccinated, actively monitor symptoms, and self-report positive cases or possible exposures.

As of Monday, May 10, we had one active positive case of COVID-19 and another four individuals being monitored for active exposures or symptoms. Self-reporting positive tests, suspicious symptoms or possible exposures is still vital to the overall health and safety of everyone at CSU.

Thank you for showing our community that CSU is making wise choices and that we are doing our part to keep ourselves and Cougars everywhere safe and healthy.

Sincerely,
Shana Young and Julio Llanos, Co-Chairs
COVID-19 Response Team
