February 18, 2021 - COVID-19 Updates: USG seeks input on vaccines

Dear Faculty and Staff:

Last week, Columbus State University invited employees to participate in a COVID-19 vaccination interest survey. Since that time, the University System of Georgia has initiated a similar effort across all 26 USG institutions. Like our CSU survey, this one is brief, but the information vital to USG’s advocacy on behalf of all our institutions to make vaccines available to system employees as soon as supplies are available.

Please take a moment to participate in this USG survey using the link in the message below — even if you have already participated in the CSU vaccine interest survey.

Until vaccinations are widely available, the two most reliable tools in our pandemic toolkit are following public health guidelines and self-reporting. Wear your face coverings, maintain physical distancing and wash your hands frequently. And, if you experience COVID-like symptoms, test positive for COVID-19 or are exposed to someone who has, complete the online self-report form. Based on self-reporting, CSU had 12 active positive cases on campus, and a total of 49 individuals in some phase of active case management as of Monday.

We thank you for continuing to support our efforts and for doing your part to keep yourself and Cougars everywhere safe and healthy.

Sincerely,
Shana Young and Julio Llanos, Co-Chairs
COVID-19 Response Team

The following message has been provided by the University System of Georgia:

Dear Columbus State University Faculty and Staff:

Let us begin by saying we do not yet know when the COVID-19 vaccine will be available to our faculty and staff. However, we are sending this survey in support of our planning efforts once the vaccine is available.

We request your response to this voluntary and anonymous survey pertaining to the COVID-19 vaccine. Specifically, we are asking for you to record whether you plan to take the COVID-19 vaccine once it is available. Your response does not commit you either way. In other words, you might indicate “yes” or “no” or some other answer but this will not prevent you from later declining or receiving the vaccine. However, your response will be used to help determine the number of vaccines requested for our institution.

Please note that the COVID-19 vaccine currently is not available to our faculty and staff with very limited exceptions for employees in Phase 1A+ (e.g., healthcare workers, adults 65+ and their caregivers, as well as first responders in law enforcement, fire personnel, etc.). However, our employees will be eligible once the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) transitions from Phase 1A+ to Phase 1B. Of course, vaccines will not be available immediately upon transition to Phase 1B but will depend on the timing of vaccines distributed to the state of Georgia.

We are asking that you please complete this survey no later than Thursday, February 25, 2021. Please click here to complete the survey. Once again, please note this survey is both voluntary and anonymous.

Finally, please refer to the DPH website for more information on vaccines as well as specific information on the safety, effectiveness, and reliability of the COVID-19 vaccine.
