COVID-19 Response and Updates

Guidance for Residential Students

The University System of Georgia and its 26 institutions continue to follow guidance from the Georgia Department of Public Health with regard to quarantining (for those who may have been exposed to a positive COVID-19 case) and isolating (for those testing positive for COVID-19) students who reside in its residence halls. See "Vaccines and Vaccination Status" for how students' vaccination status may affect if, how and for how long they may be quarantined or isolated.

Residential Students Required to Isolate

Due to limited on-campus space, CSU will not provide on-campus quarantining and isolation facilities. Students living in on-campus residence halls (especially those who are unvaccinated) should have an alternate location in mind or have a contingency to return to their permanent residence if they are required to isolate.

Students who are required to quarantine (because of a potential exposure) may request permission to remain in campus housing. Columbus State will apply priority to students who must isolate because they exhibit symptoms of and/or have had a positive test for COVID-19 - and only based on the following documentable criteria:

  • A documented medical condition that would make travel dangerous or impossible.
  • Enrollment at CSU on a student visa from foreign country that would preclude travel home and return travel to CSU after quarantining.
  • Official third-party verified homelessness (documented previously or contemporaneously by CSU or an outside agency).

Requests and associated documentation from students required to isolate will be reviewed by the CSU COVID-19 Response Team and granted on a space-available basis when possible and appropriate. In those situations, students in on-campus isolation will be responsible for arranging their own meals by either leaving campus solely for the purpose of picking up meals from drive-through locations or, if the student has a meal plan, utilizing an online ordering system developed by CSU Residence Life and then arranging through friends to pick up and deliver the ordered meals to them.

Students living in on-campus residence halls (especially those who are unvaccinated) should have an alternate location in mind or have a contingency to return to their permanent residence if they are required to quarantine. Quarantined students should arrange to leave campus within 24 hours after notification by the COVID-19 Response Team.
