ARTH 2125. Introduction to the History of Art 1 (3-0-3) Introduction to the formal and symbolic structure of the artwork and its development from prehistory through the Middle Ages. (Course fee required.)


ARTH 2126. Introduction to the History of Art 2 (3-0-3) Introduction to themes and problems in the history of western art from the Renaissance through the 20th century. (Course fee required.)


ARTS 1000. Art Convocation (0-3-0) A laboratory experience to include student exhibitions, presentations, guest artists, master classes, lectures, field trips and administration of entrance evaluation for Visual arts majors. May be repeated. Attendance by non-majors is encouraged. (Course fee required.)


ARTS 1010. Drawing 1: Fundamentals of Drawing (0-6-3) Drawing 1 is an introductory study of the fundamental concepts of drawing including line, shape, value, form, space, and perspective. Compositional organization will be explored through black and white media with an emphasis on observational drawing practices. (Course fee required.)


ARTS 1011. Drawing 2: Perspective and Figurative Drawing (0-6-3) Prerequisite: ARTS 1010. Drawing 2 is a further investigation of basic drawing concepts and techniques. Students will explore a broad range of drawing materials including the limited use of color to improve perceptual skills and will be introduced to non-traditional contemporary approaches to drawing. (Course fee required.)


ARTS 1020. Introduction to Digital Design (0-6-3) Introduction to Digital Design is an introductory course structured to acquaint the beginning student with the basic visual concepts of art. Series of exercises and applied problems in visual organization; study includes line, texture, shape, size, space and color theory. Students will also apply critical & creative thinking to studio problems in order to increase their visual vocabulary through experimentation. These fundamental studio experiments are the visual groundwork for the student's critical, analytical, and perceptual skills. Students will gain an understanding of how computer software relates to generating and manipulating images; and will be required to gain a working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Illustrator (Course fee required.)


ARTS 1030. Three Dimensional Design (0-6-3) A further investigation of design principles extending into the area of three-dimensional design. (Course fee required.)


ARTS 2000. Foundation Review (0-0-0) Prerequisites: ARTS 1010, 1020, and ARTH 2125. Satisfactory grade in this course indicates completion of a foundation review for the BFA degree in Art or the BSEd degree in Art Education. (S/U grading) May only be taken twice.
