With a Bachelor of Science in Education - Special Education from Columbus State University, you will create a foundation that sets you apart from your peers. Build a knowledge base to propel you toward a successful future.

The Department of Teacher Education, Leadership, and Counseling emphasizes instruction and rigorous application of theory through performance-based instruction and real-world experience. You'll learn through traditional methods and modern technologies, including online, distance learning, and web-enhanced instruction. Gain experience with computer simulations, video, and labs both on campus and in the field.

Nationally recognized by the Council for Exceptional Children, the Special Education program at CSU offers contemporary theory and research. In the first two years, you'll complete coursework to become eligible for admission to teacher education. A sequence of campus and field-based courses will equip you to teach a semester during your senior year. In addition the General Curriculum program leads to entry level (T-4) Georgia certification.

Columbus State's Bachelor of Science in Education - Special Education degree leads to initial Georgia certification. You will prepare for teaching preschool, school age children and with experience, at child care centers:

Reading Concentration

You will demonstrate fundamental knowledge of teaching children to read through diagnostic and prescriptive reading instruction. Courses such as vocabulary development and reading and writing for grades 4 – 12 will develop your abilities to provide meaningful and challenging learning experiences for individuals with exceptionalities.
